Did you know heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined? I recently attended an event with the American Heart Association of Houston, not only did I have fun but I learned a lot of critical information.
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."

Facts about Heart Disease and Stoke
•Heart Disease claims over 1 million lives a year, more than the next 4 causes of death combined
•Over 80 million Americans have cardiovascular disease
•While Stroke is the No. 3 leading cause of death, it leads as our Nation’s No. 1 disabler

Fighting Heart Disease in Women
•On average, more than 70 women die from heart attack and stroke in Texas each day
•The AHA award-winning Go Red For Women campaign helps women make lifestyle changes to live longer, stronger lives
•Local events include National Wear Red Day, the Houston Go Red For Women luncheon, Vestido Rojo and Go Red Girlfriend.

The event I attended, Red Wine, Dark Chocolate, was sponsored by my company and was held to unveil the organization’s 2012 Art Hearts.
The evening also celebrated the American Heart Association’s exclusive Circle of Red group through the unveiling of Art Hearts. Local artists such as Taft McWhorter, Kermit Eisenhut and Shelley Shanks Lockwood donated their time and talents to create beautiful and unique hearts for the Circle of Red members. Each Circle of Red member worked directly with her artist to create a unique and personal Art Heart, one that will be displayed at a location of their choosing.
The event definitely motivated me to learn more about the risks associated with heart disease.  I enjoyed viewing all the artists work, a fun time was certainly had by all!!
